Completing the Quran during Ramadan

share

Assalamualaikum, Iftar Mubarak.

There is no Hadith that explicitly mentions completing the Quran during Ramadan. However, there are Hadiths that encourage the practice of reciting the Quran frequently and the Prophet’s (PBUH) own practice during Ramadan serves as a strong example. Here are some relevant Hadiths:

Abu Huraira reported: “The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would review the Quran once every year in Ramadan, and he reviewed it twice in the year he passed away.” (Sahih al-Bukhari:  صحيح البخاري 5912)

This Hadith shows the Prophet’s emphasis on reviewing the Quran during Ramadan, although it doesn’t specify completing it entirely.

The Prophet (PBUH) said: “The best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it.” (Sahih al-Bukhari:  صحيح البخاري4747 and Sahih Muslim:  صحيح مسلم 1798)

This Hadith emphasizes the importance of learning and reciting the Quran, highlighting the rewards associated with it.

While there’s no direct Hadith on completing the Quran in Ramadan, the Prophet’s practice of reviewing it and the overall emphasis on Quran recitation during this holy month strongly encourage this practice.

Tips for Completing the Quran During Ramadan:

  • Set Realistic Goals: Don’t overwhelm yourself. Aim for a manageable portion each day, whether it’s a Juz (a thirtieth of the Quran) or a specific number of pages.
  • Consistency is Key: Commit to a daily recitation schedule, even if it’s just a short portion. Consistency is more important than large chunks done sporadically.
  • Find a Comfortable Pace: Recite at a pace that allows for comprehension. Don’t rush through the verses just to finish quickly.
  • Seek Understanding: Pair recitation with tafsir (interpretation) to understand the meaning and context of the verses. This will enrich your experience and deepen your connection with the Quran.
  • Join a Quran Recitation Group: Find a group reciting the Quran together at the mosque or online. This fosters motivation, accountability, and creates a sense of community.

Remember, completing the Quran is a marathon, not a sprint. Be patient with yourself, celebrate your progress, and enjoy the spiritual journey.  May this Ramadan be filled with the light of the Quran and the blessings of Allah.
